Runway Grooving

In December 2015, Roadgrip was engaged to groove the newly laid asphalt runway in Bolzano, South Tyrol, Italy.

Roadgrip grooved a total of 70,000m2 in a 10 day window with a complete runway closure available. The runway was grooved in a 6mm x 6mm @ 38mm centres pattern to improve friction and aid water dissipation, minimising the likelihood of aqua planing.

Roadgrip used its slurry collecting machines to complete the works which leave the surface clean straight behind the cutting head.

The weather was particularly challenging with extremely cold southern Alps weather but we did it in time.  Bolzano is now the first runway in Italy to be grooved!
