As 2023 kicks off, the Roadgrip team at our UK head office are celebrating another major milestone for one of our valued members.

Oli Middleton, our Operations Manager, has worked with Roadgrip for 11 years this month. We spoke to him about his career journey and what he enjoys most about his role here:

How did your experience begin at Roadgrip?

It was a lucky meeting with Nick, the CEO, actually.

I was working in another company next door to Roadgrip HQ and got to know the guys that way. I was working as a Contract Administrator and felt the need for a change. An opportunity came up at Roadgrip to join as the Assistant Coordinator in the Ops team and the rest is history. I’ve moved up to Operations Manager from there.

What does your role as Operations Manager involve?

My role as Ops Manager is pretty varied – no day is ever the same, which I like. I deal with everything from pricing, scheduling of work, project management and invoicing to risk statements and site visits. I also get involved in HR and purchasing. Over time, I’ve got to know who’s best for each job and enjoy that aspect of planning.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I love being able to get out and about, and really enjoy the quoting and winning process. It’s satisfying to pitch for a job, win the work and then run the delivery of that job from start to finish. I like to pick up an enquiry and see that project through to success.

I’m also passionate about motorsport and always have been. It feels like a real privilege to be able to experience that side of our global business too.

What do you love about Roadgrip?

The people. There’s a great bunch here and we always have a laugh.

No day is ever the same, it keeps you on your toes but it’s fun too.

What are you looking forward to in the future?

I’ve watched this small, family business grow into a much bigger, global company over the years. It’s great to be part of that growth and I look forward to being an integral part of that as it continues in the future.

I’m looking forward to growing the team and business further, and taking on some larger projects throughout the UK and overseas as we expand.

How do you relax outside of Roadgrip?

I’m an Arsenal fan (don’t judge me) so if I’m not spending time with my family and little boy, I like to watch the footie. Other than that, I enjoy keeping fit and hiking up mountains as much as possible. That’s as exciting as it gets. Ultimately, I’m a family man and love my work.
