Roadgrip Motorsport has once again completed the temporary street circuit markings and large-scale branding installation for the Formula E race weekend at Tempelhof Airport.
Set within the historic former airport site, our European team transformed vast concrete aircraft aprons into a fully operational race track in a matter of days.
Unlike permanent circuits, everything at Tempelhof is temporary, meaning the entire venue must be precisely marked, branded and race-ready within an extremely tight programme before later being returned to public use.
For this year’s event, Roadgrip Motorsport installed the sporting lines, pit lane markings, run-off areas and wall branding throughout the circuit, helping shape the overall look and feel of the Berlin E-Prix.
The work also included the application of large-scale sponsor graphics for brands including Google Cloud, ABB, Attack Mode and Julius Baer.
At Formula E events, branding is not confined to a few isolated locations. The walls, run-off areas and track surfaces become part of the visual identity of the race itself, constantly visible in onboard footage, aerial shots and global broadcast coverage. Every logo therefore has to be applied with complete accuracy and consistency, no matter the scale or location.
To achieve this, we combined VR layout software and digital set-out systems with traditional hand-marking expertise. The VR technology allows complex logos and graphics to be mapped accurately across large surfaces before paint is applied, ensuring correct scaling and positioning throughout the circuit.
The unusual geometry and texture of the Tempelhof surface requires the team to also make subtle adjustments by eye during installation to ensure the finished graphics appear visually correct from every viewing angle.
Delivering this level of precision within the compressed build schedule of a temporary Formula E circuit requires careful planning, coordination and specialist knowledge.
Every stage of the installation must happen quickly without compromising on quality, particularly on a venue where the transition from public space to world-class race circuit happens in such a short timeframe.
From the sporting lines to the large-scale sponsor graphics, every detail contributes to creating a circuit that performs technically while also delivering the visual impact expected from a global racing series like Formula E.
