Job title Line-Marking Charge-Hands/Operatives – Thermoplastic/Paint
Reports to Operations Manager
Based at Client sites – UK and international working may be required. Day & Night shifts.

 

Summary

 

The Company undertakes a variety of specialist contracting activities in the UK and abroad including:

 

  • Line Marking/Airfield markings
  • Surface coatings, waterproofing primarily in the retail and car park sectors
  • Joint-sealing, saw cutting
  • Concrete and asphalt repairs and specialist concrete surface protection systems
  • Grooving
  • Paint removal using hydro blasting and shot blasting
  • Runway Rubber removal
  • Formula1 line marking
  • Asphalt preservation

 

All our activities require the use of specialist bespoke plant and equipment.

Key Objectives

 

  • Ensuring the highest level of safety at all time
  • Motivate others to deliver the work to the agreed specification within the agreed timeframe
  • Provide guidance and support to more junior operatives (depending on level employed at)

 

Principal Responsibilities & Accountabilities

 

  • Deliver tasks as directed within specified timescales and to the highest standard
  • Highlight any change to works, risks or opportunities
  • Identify and suggest preventative measures to mitigate problems on site before they occur
  • Ensuring safety is paramount on site and the workforce are adhering to any regulations relating to health safety and the environment and ensuring point of work risk assessments are carried out on site prior to the start of all shifts
  • Oversee more junior operatives and provide assistance where required (depending on level)
  • To install markings as per the design and drawings and as directed by management. All in line with specifications and manufacturers recommendations
  • To ensure that the correct plant, equipment and materials are taken to or delivered to site prior to commencement of works
  • To only use plant and equipment you are competent to use and have had formal or on the job-training in
  • Avoid improvisation and only use the correct equipment for the task
  • To measure and report to the Operations Manager/Assistant Operations Manager the amount of work carried out on a daily basis by completing a DRS using the ReFlow App and communication with office
  • To allocate duties to second men/labourers and to supervise them on site in a safe manner, carrying out Start of Shift Briefings and ensuring details are recorded on the ReFlow App
  • To comply with H&S regulations and to maintain a safe working environment on site and or report back to management accordingly
  • Use the personal protective equipment as identified as part of the risk assessment process or site rules.
  • Carry out pre use checks, reporting all defective work equipment or materials, or any obvious safety or health hazards through the ReFlow App.
  • Take reasonable care not to endanger themselves or other persons through their actions or omissions at work.
  • Identifying extra work, bit wear etc, standing time or any other risks and opportunities on your DRS
  • To undertake any other tasks requested of you within your competence and experience.
  • Willing to learn other skills in the business and develop with the company

 

Qualifications & Training

The Charge Hand role is a position that requires considerable experience, you will need to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the work undertaken and the tools and equipment used.

Roadgrip Ltd value experience as much as qualifications, however, it is essential the following are held as a minimum:

  • CSCS – Skilled Worker Card (preferred)
  • NVQ L2/L3
  • Supervision Level Health & Safety – SSSTS
  • Emergency First Aid
  • SEATS (preferred)
  • Manual Handling
  • Abrasive Wheels (where applicable)

You will also be expected to undertake training and/or hold job specific qualifications as appropriate.

Technical Skills & Experience

  • Knowledge of current safety legislation and its application in the construction maintenance environment
  • Significant operator experience
  • Experience gained from highway maintenance, airport maintenance, general construction, resin flooring or waterproofing.
  • Some levels will require experience of motivating, influencing staff and others
  • Experience of communicating effectively both verbally and in writing by way of reporting progress and highlighting risks on a project
  • Track record of delivering work within deadlines and to high standards
  • Ability to react to a changing workload and conflicting priorities
