Some of the most valuable conversations in aviation happen away from the runway.

Our airports team in Roadgrip Africa recently attended and exhibited at the 35th ACI Africa Annual General Assembly, Regional Conference & Exhibition in Abuja. We always enjoy this annual event and the opportunities it gives us to meet airport leaders from across the continent, exchange ideas and talk about some of the technology shaping the future of airfield maintenance.

Sharing AeroMonitor with the Aviation Industry

One of the main focuses for Roadgrip at this year’s conference was AeroMonitor, our approach to helping airports better understand, monitor and manage the condition of their airfield infrastructure.

The response exceeded our expectations.

Throughout the event, we spoke with airport operators, engineers and aviation professionals interested in how better pavement data and monitoring can inform maintenance decisions and help airports develop a clearer picture of how their critical surfaces are performing.

Those conversations are particularly valuable because every airport is different.

Climate, traffic levels, pavement construction, maintenance history and operational constraints all influence the challenges an airport faces.

Campbell, from our sister company, R3, presented to an interested audience of professionals who deal with those challenges every day.

Nigeria’s Aviation

We were also honoured to welcome Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development to the Roadgrip stand.

It was a great chance to discuss our work and the technologies we’re developing for the airport sector, while hearing more about the ambitions and priorities shaping aviation infrastructure in Nigeria.

Having conversations like these is one of the reasons international industry events remain so worthwhile. They bring together government, airport authorities, operators, engineers, suppliers and specialists who might otherwise be separated by thousands of miles.

Shared Experiences and Ideas

We shared experiences from the airfield projects we deliver internationally, but just as importantly, we heard about the challenges facing airports across the continent and the different approaches being taken to maintenance, infrastructure and future development.

There were new ideas to take home, partnerships to develop and conversations that we expect will continue long after everyone has left Abuja.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by the Roadgrip stand, asked questions, challenged ideas and showed such enthusiasm for AeroMonitor and our wider airfield capabilities.

We’d also like to thank ACI Africa and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) for bringing the aviation community together and for the warm welcome throughout our time in Abuja.
