The international Formula E season is a busy one that takes our motorsport team around the world. For this all-electric race, we travelled to Oregon in the US for the 2024 prix in Portland.
This is the last time Formula E will be racing at Portland International Raceway before moving to another US venue, so we wanted to give the track’s ground graphics and sporting lines a memorable punch of colour and vibrancy for the race.
A large part of the circuit areas are grass-covered which means our team must apply specialist turf paint. To achieve precision graphics that showcase the sponsor branding perfectly, our team set out the logos using a drawing software programme which is engineered on site prior to application.
The largest grass-based logo spanned 7000 sqm so it was essential we got the design right, first time.
In addition to the branded run off areas, we also applied anti slip FIA approved paint to the circuit comprising sporting lines, grid markings and pit lane markings.
Post-race, the team will return to repaint over the grass in green paint (in water-based paint that will naturally disappear, which is better than cutting the red grass which can spread onto the track) and remove the paint markings with UHP water jets.
