Roadgrip is proud to be supporting Sainsbury’s in its nationwide Smart Charge initiative by delivering high-quality electric vehicle (EV) bay markings across the UK. To date, we’ve completed works at 12 Sainsbury’s car parks from London to Manchester, helping to create clear, accessible, and visually distinctive charging zones for customers.
Sainsbury’s Smart Charge is the retailer’s fully owned and operated EV charging network, making it the first UK supermarket to manage its charging infrastructure end-to-end.
These ultra-rapid chargers, powered by 100% renewable energy, can deliver up to 80% charge in as little as 30 minutes, providing enough power to travel up to 200 miles. The chargers are conveniently located next to Sainsbury’s stores, allowing customers to shop while their vehicles charge.
To create clear, high-visibility charging zones, we applied green thermoplastic paint – a durable and hard-wearing material ideal for high-traffic environments like supermarket car parks. Thermoplastic not only offers excellent longevity and skid resistance, but it also sets quickly, minimising disruption to car park operations.
Each bay features clean, sharp stencilling in white thermoplastic, applied in the Sainsbury’s EV design to clearly indicate its purpose as an electric charging point. The vibrant contrast between the green background and white icons ensures that the bays are instantly recognisable to drivers.
By investing in EV infrastructure, Sainsbury’s is taking positive steps to support cleaner travel and make charging more convenient for shoppers, which is a move Roadgrip is proud to be part of.
