As part of our long-term relationship with Curaçao International Airport, Roadgrip Airports was brought in to deliver high-performance runway and taxiway solutions with the painting of 12,000m² across the airfield.
For this project, we used water-based acrylic paint to TTP-1952D FAA specifications, chosen for its fast-drying, low-VOC formula, which is ideal for the tropical Curaçao climate where quick turnarounds and environmental considerations are essential. This type of coating offers durability under high UV exposure and resistance to heavy airfield traffic, making it a smart choice for coastal, high-temperature locations like Curaçao.
To enhance safety, especially for pilots operating at night, we incorporated Type III reflective glass beads into the markings. These high-index beads dramatically improve visibility under aircraft landing lights, offering superior retroreflectivity compared to standard beads. In an environment where sudden tropical downpours and glare are common, visibility is critical.
This is not our first time on the island. Roadgrip has a long-standing relationship with Curaçao International Airport, having previously completed rubber removal, paint removal, and airfield repainting, each project tailored to meet the unique demands of this busy Caribbean hub.
Curaçao’s tropical climate, with its intense heat, salty air, and occasional heavy rainfall, can quickly degrade poorly applied or low-quality runway markings. That’s why proper surface preparation, durable paint systems, and precision application matter more than ever in ensuring long-term runway safety and performance.
