Roadgrip Airports, Africa, has successfully completed critical works for the development of Kabaale International Airport in Hoima, Uganda. As part of this new runway construction, our team carried out precision grooving on the 3,500m-long, 45m-wide runway. Over a dedicated six-week period, we worked tirelessly during daylight hours to complete the project before the airport becomes fully operational.

The Importance of Runway Grooving in Uganda’s Climate

With Uganda’s tropical climate bringing frequent and intense rainfall, effective water drainage on runways is essential for safe aircraft operations. Runway grooving significantly enhances surface drainage, reducing the risk of hydroplaning and improving braking performance for aircraft. By channelling excess water away, the grooves help maintain optimal friction levels, ensuring safer landings and take-offs even in wet conditions.

A Pivotal Infrastructure Project for Uganda

Kabaale International Airport is a major infrastructure development designed to support Uganda’s growing oil and gas industry while also facilitating increased tourism. The airport’s construction is a strategic investment and as Uganda continues to invest in its aviation infrastructure, we are proud to contribute to a project that will drive industrial progress, boost economic growth, and improve connectivity for both businesses and travellers.
