Roadgrip Airport’s grooving team continue a busy season in Annecy Haute-Savoie Mont-Blanc Airport, south of Geneva in the shadow of the snowcapped Alps.

As part of a £multi-million investment plan to offer direct access to the Mont Blanc ski resorts and great lakes of Annecy and Geneva, the airport is being upgraded to accommodate bigger and faster jets.

Situated at an altitude of 1521 feet and in the shadow of the Alps, one of the first fundamental needs was to groove the existing runway to improve safety and longevity.

Roadgrip mobilised two grooving machines from its fleet to cut 6mm x 6mm grooves at 38mm centres transversely along the length of the 1500m runway. Grooving in this way increases the macro texture of the surface and aids water dissipation to decrease braking distances and prevent potential aquaplaning in wet or snowy weather.

Our team completed the work in a little under two weeks, ready for the next phase of development.
