Friction Testing, Runway Grooving, Runway Line Marking

To improve runway safety as part of the airfield maintenance project, Roadgrip Airports have undertaken runway friction testing, runway grooving and airfield painting at Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport (previously known as Beef Island Airport) in Tortola, British Virgin Islands.

As the main airport serving all of the Virgin islands (and as a gateway airport for inter-Caribbean flights to the US Virgin Islands), the busy runway needs to be maintained for safety to handle the increasing air traffic.

Our global team conducted seven ICAO compliant friction tests during and after the resurfacing of the runway.  As specialists in airfield grooving, we then grooved 39,000m2 of runway to CAA specification (4mmx4mm @ 25mm centres) before applying 5,500m2 of runway painting using type 3 high-build airfield paint and type 1 reflective beads for greater visibility.
