Roadgrip Paints London’s Brick Lane Yellow for Wicked

Roadgrip had the unique honour of helping turn one London’s most iconic streets into a celebration of cinema magic for the launch of Wicked for Good, the second instalment of the phenomenon that celebrates the back story of the Wizard of Oz.

Working with Organic Publicity on behalf of Universal, our team transformed Brick Lane into ‘Yellow Brick Lane’ to pay tribute to the film’s most famous symbol, the yellow brick road, by turning 110 metres of London roadway into a dazzling, golden cobbled pathway through one of the capital’s most vibrant neighbourhoods.

All paintwork was completed using anti-slip coatings, ensuring the surface was safe for visitors, pedestrians, and artists throughout the installation period, and most importantly motor safe for the two-week installation.

To create the effect, we first sprayed the entire stretch of road brown, providing the perfect ‘grouting’ colour to define each brick. Then, using hand-cut plywood stencils meticulously crafted by one of our own operatives, we sprayed the individual yellow bricks in place. The result was a seamless, bold, and textured pattern that looked as if it had been lifted straight from the Land of Oz.

With Brick Lane under a 24-hour closure, our 3-person team worked through the night alongside other artists contributing to the Brick Lane Wicked Project, ensuring the street was ready for the morning reveal.

The Yellow Brick Lane installation will remain in place for two weeks before we return to carefully remove the paint and restore the street to its original finish.

From F1 circuits to film advertising, this project captures what Roadgrip does best: combining creativity, craftsmanship, and technical expertise to deliver something memorable – and a little bit magical.
