Roadgrip Motorsport has returned to one of the most iconic circuits in motorsport to paint the track at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps ahead of the Formula 1 Moet & Chandon Belgian Grand Prix 2025.

Set in the heart of the Ardennes forest, Spa is a fan-favourite, not just for its stunning scenery, but for its thrilling layout that includes the legendary Eau Rouge-Raidillon complex and some of the most demanding corners on the F1 calendar. This is one of the reasons our expertise is called on when applying safety lines to the circuit.

Setting the Stage in FIA-Approved Paint

Our team installed all grid markings, run offs, pit lane boundaries, safety car lines, DRS zones, and track limits using FIA-homologated paint, specially formulated for grip, durability, and visibility in both wet and dry conditions.

These markings are far more than cosmetic; they’re essential to how the race is run and how the rules are enforced. Each line is carefully measured and placed to meet the strict standards required for Formula 1, ensuring consistency for the drivers, the stewards, and race control.

What Do DRS Lines Actually Do?

You’ll notice short white lines painted just before and after certain straights. These lines mark the DRS (Drag Reduction System) detection and activation zones.

In simple terms, DRS is a system that allows a driver to open a flap on the rear wing to reduce aerodynamic drag and gain a speed advantage when attempting to overtake. But it’s only allowed under specific conditions, mainly when a driver is within one second of the car ahead at a designated detection point.

That’s where we come in: those painted lines signal to the onboard electronics and race control where DRS detection occurs and where it can be safely activated. It’s a subtle yet crucial part of the modern racing spectacle.

Why Track Limits Matter—Especially at Eau Rouge and Raidillon

Another key feature we’ve installed is the blue track limit lines, found at various key points around the circuit including the iconic and ultra-fast Eau Rouge and Raidillon section.

At this part of the track, cars are travelling at incredibly high speeds while climbing and weaving through a steep, blind sequence of corners. With such intense G-forces and limited visibility, it’s easy for drivers to run wide over the kerbs, especially in qualifying when pushing to the absolute limit.

The blue lines serve as a clear visual reference for stewards and race control, helping them determine when a car has exceeded the circuit boundaries with all four wheels. At Eau Rouge and Raidillon, this isn’t just about enforcing rules, it’s about ensuring fairness and safety in one of the most critical sections of the lap. Exceeding limits here can offer a performance gain, but also comes with risk, so precision is essential.
