Roadgrip has recently completed a car park surface preparation and refurbishment project on King’s Road, London, delivering a durable, high-performance finish designed to withstand heavy daily use in a busy urban environment.

Car parks are demanding spaces. Constant vehicle movement, turning forces, braking, oil contamination and weather exposure all take their toll on the surface. This project focused on restoring the structure, improving safety, and extending the lifespan of the car park through thorough preparation and specialist coatings.

Car Park Refurbishment: Grinding and Captive Blasting

The success of any coating system depends entirely on the quality of the surface beneath it. For this reason, the first phase of works involved heavy grinding and captive blasting.

Grinding removes surface laitance, old coatings, and high spots, creating a level and uniform profile. Captive blasting then cleans and textures the concrete using steel shot in a fully enclosed system, which is immediately vacuumed away. This process:

  • Creates the correct surface profile for coating adhesion
  • Removes contaminants such as oils, dirt and weak concrete
  • Prevents dust and debris escaping into surrounding areas
  • Ensures a consistent, clean finish across the entire car park

Together, these methods provide a mechanically sound surface that allows coatings to bond properly, preventing premature failure.

Car Park Repairs and Surface Restoration

Once the surface was prepared, our team carried out localised concrete repairs, filling holes, cracks and damaged areas. These repairs are essential not only for appearance, but also to prevent further deterioration caused by water ingress and freeze-thaw cycles.

By addressing these defects at this stage, we ensured the car park surface was structurally sound before moving on to the coating system.

Car Park Floor Coatings for Safety & Longevity

With preparation and repairs complete, a PU primer was applied to seal the surface and enhance adhesion. This was followed by the installation of RG10, Roadgrip’s hard-wearing, anti-slip coating system.

This floor coating is particularly well suited to car park environments because it:

  • Provides excellent slip resistance, improving safety for vehicles and pedestrians
  • Withstands heavy traffic and tight turning movements
  • Resists wear from braking, steering and tyre scrubbing
  • Performs reliably in wet conditions
  • Offers long-term durability with reduced maintenance needs

In busy locations like King’s Road, where safety and longevity are critical, an anti-slip coating plays a key role in reducing the risk of skidding and pedestrian slips while maintaining a clean, professional appearance.

A Durable Finish for a High-Use Car Park

This refurbishment project demonstrates Roadgrip’s end-to-end approach to surface treatment, from intensive preparation and repair through to specialist coating application. By focusing on the fundamentals of surface integrity and adhesion, we’re able to deliver finishes that perform day after day in demanding environments.
