Roadgrip has recently been commissioned to upgrade the baggage hold area at Gatwick Airport with floor coatings to improve the operational zone where efficiency and safety are paramount.

The baggage hold area is where luggage is sorted, scanned, and loaded onto aircraft via tugs and conveyor systems. With high volumes of movement and machinery in constant operation, clearly defined zones and durable surfaces are critical to keeping teams safe and the process running smoothly.

We began the works by grinding off the existing floor coatings and preparing the surface using captive shot blasting, ensuring strong adhesion for the next stage. A tough resin coating was then applied, designed to withstand heavy traffic and resist wear over time.

To further enhance safety and way finding, we added precise floor markings including pedestrian crossings, bold white directional arrows on a clean grey base, and high-visibility red zones for STOP and KEEP CLEAR areas.

The result is a safer, more navigable space that supports the seamless handling of thousands of bags each day, helping to keep Gatwick’s operations moving efficiently.
