Few Formula 1 circuits are as instantly recognisable as the Red Bull Ring. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Styrian mountains, its bold red, blue and white colour palette has become synonymous with the Austrian Grand Prix, making it one of the most visually striking venues on the Formula 1 calendar.
Ahead of this year’s race weekend, Roadgrip Motorsport returned to Spielberg to complete the specialist track marking and branding works that help define the circuit’s unmistakable identity.
Our team installed the sporting lines, pit lane markings, starting grid and finish line, before completing a large-scale grass branding installation designed to make an impact from the air as well as from trackside.
Although the Red Bull Ring is relatively short by Formula 1 standards at just over 4.3 kilometres, it is one of the most demanding circuits to prepare.
The combination of long straights, heavy braking zones and significant elevation changes places high demands on both the circuit surface and its markings. Every sporting line, pit lane marking and grid position must be installed with absolute accuracy to meet FIA requirements while remaining durable throughout a busy race weekend.
Modern Formula 1 circuits are designed not only to perform on race day, but also to create a distinctive visual identity for global television audiences.
The Red Bull Ring is one of the best examples of this. Its signature colour scheme, combined with the surrounding landscape, produces images that are immediately recognisable anywhere in the world.
As part of this year’s preparations, Roadgrip also painted a large-scale brand graphic onto the grass, using environmentally friendly, water-based paint specifically formulated for turf applications.
Applied at significant scale, the artwork was designed to be viewed from drone and helicopter cameras, adding another visual layer to the circuit’s broadcast presentation without causing lasting impact to the grass. Over time, the paint naturally weathers and the treated areas return to their normal appearance through regular growth and mowing.
With the sporting lines complete, the grid in place, the pit lane ready for action and the large-scale grass branding providing a striking finishing touch, the Red Bull Ring once again looked every bit the world-class Formula 1 venue it has become known for.
