We are delighted to have secured the major refurbishment project of the Bridge of Americas in Panama, which will begin in 2014 and take 18 months to complete.
The bridge is a huge landmark spanning the Panama Canal and the only non-swinging road bridge to connect north and South America.
As the major highway in Panama, our team will be carrying out concrete repairs to the bridge deck and adding a full overlay to the bridge totalling approximately 22,000 square metres.
We’ll be beginning the project with hydroblast preparation to all bridge surfaces prior to the overlay using 42000 PSi. The patches will then be planed out using brand new milling machinery.
We’ll be using our special traffic-grip epoxy antiskid product to increase safety on the bridge too. This is a two-coat system and, as this is the first time ever to be used in Panama, we’ll be ensuring all application is in accordance with US D.O.T specifications.
This project begins our new international business venture: Roadgrip Panama. Our Panama team will be establishing permanent residence and we look forward to working in this beautiful part of the world.
Our work in Panama has well and truly begun this February at the stunning Bridge of Americas.
We have a team of 10 working on the bridge – 6 from the UK and 4 from the local area – to keep the project moving to schedule. The water blast preparation of the bridge has now been completed and now that the equipment has arrived safely, the team have begun concrete repairs. We’ll keep you updated with photos as we go so make sure you come back to see progress.
