Following the IndyCar street race in Arlington, Roadgrip Motorsport USA returned to site to remove event branding and reinstate key areas of the AT&T Stadium venue including the concrete parking areas at the home of the Dallas Cowboys.
During the build-up to the race, sections of the stadium’s hardstanding had been incorporated into the circuit footprint. Parking bay lines were removed to make way for the temporary layout, along with large-scale branding across highways, run-off areas and surrounding surfaces.
With the event complete, the priority was to return these areas to their original condition, ready for everyday use.
On most projects, Roadgrip uses ultra-high-pressure (UHP) water jetting to remove paint and branding. It’s precise, effective and protects the underlying surface.
However, in this case, the surface in question was concrete, and the scale and location of the works called for a different approach.
Working in Arlington, just a short distance from Fort Worth, we brought in our friends at Skidabrader to carry out the removal using dry captive shot blasting.
Shot blasting is particularly effective on concrete surfaces, where coatings can bond more aggressively than on asphalt.
Using one of the largest machines of its kind, the team was able to quickly and efficiently remove paint, branding and residual coatings from the hardstanding. The process works by propelling steel shot at the surface in a controlled, enclosed system, stripping away the coating while capturing debris at the same time.
The result is a clean, uniform surface, ready for the next phase of works.
By removing the branding first, we ensured the surface was properly reset before reinstating the parking lot markings. This step is critical to achieving clean, durable line marking that adheres correctly and performs over time.
Alongside the hardstanding works, the team also removed highway branding, run-off graphics and advertising installed for the race, completing the transition from race circuit back to everyday infrastructure.
Street circuits are built to perform for a few days, but they rely on careful planning before and after the event to minimise disruption and maintain the integrity of the underlying surfaces.
For Roadgrip Motorsport USA, it’s about understanding the surface, choosing the right method, and delivering a clean finish, whether that means UHP water jetting or working with trusted friends to get the job done efficiently.
