Following the Miami Formula E race at Hard Rock Stadium, our motorsport team returned to site to transition the venue from race mode back to its year-round Miami identity, removing the visual footprint of the ePrix and reinstating the stadium’s signature look.

That means one thing in particular: bringing back the unmistakable “aqua” blue synonymous with the Miami Dolphins, the stadium’s home team.

Covering vs Removing Racetrack Markings

When post-race reinstatement begins, there are typically two approaches:

  • Full removal, often using ultra-high-pressure (UHP) water blasting
  • Overlay covering, applying new coatings over existing artwork

Both have their place.

For street circuits or locations undergoing layout changes, UHP water blasting is essential. It completely removes race event markings without damaging the substrate, restoring the surface to its original state. It’s precise, chemical-free, and ideal when reconfiguration is required.

However, at Hard Rock Stadium this year, the most efficient solution was different.

Why Cover the Racetrack?

In cases where the surface layout isn’t changing (and the base structure remains suitable), covering the artwork is significantly faster and more cost-effective than full removal because:

  • No need to strip back to raw surface
  • Reduced downtime for the venue
  • Lower disruption to surrounding operations
  • Faster turnaround between event and everyday use
  • Less mechanical intervention on the substrate

As the stadium required a swift return to its permanent Miami branding, overlaying the Formula E sponsor graphics and FIA track markings provided a clean, uniform finish without the need for heavy removal works.

This approach is especially valuable in multi-use venues that transition rapidly between sporting events, concerts and large-scale activations.

Precision Restoration on Racetracks

Our team carefully covered the race-specific branding and regulatory markings, reinstating the stadium’s year-round colour scheme and ensuring the venue looked exactly as expected for upcoming events.

As with race preparation, post-event restoration demands the same precision, material expertise and surface knowledge. The finish must be consistent, durable and visually seamless, particularly in a venue so widely broadcast and photographed.

Pre and Post-Race Partner

Roadgrip’s involvement doesn’t stop at race weekend. From initial circuit marking and sponsor branding through to post-event reinstatement, we manage the full lifecycle of event surface preparation.

Whether that means UHP water blasting to remove markings entirely, or carefully overlaying designs for a fast transition, we apply the method that best suits the venue’s operational needs.

At Hard Rock Stadium, that meant returning the circuit from electric race mode back to Dolphins aqua – quickly, cleanly and efficiently.
