Roadgrip Airports has completed a full airside markings refresh at Sangster International Airport (MBJ) in Montego Bay, Jamaica. This latest project saw our team repainting all essential airside areas, including the aprons, taxiways, and stands, ensuring clear, durable, and highly visible guidance for pilots and ground crews. While the runway remained untouched in this phase—having been revitalised by our previously—every other critical marking was refreshed to international standards.

Sangster International Airport is Jamaica’s busiest airport and a critical gateway to the Caribbean, handling millions of passengers annually. Located in the vibrant Montego Bay, MBJ serves as a primary hub for international tourists, particularly from North America and Europe. With its stunning coastal approach and high-volume traffic, the airport requires meticulous attention to safety and operational detail—making the airside refresh an essential upgrade.

The Importance of Airside Markings

Airside markings play a crucial role in airport safety and operational efficiency. They guide aircraft safely through taxiing, parking, and take-off procedures while ensuring ground vehicles operate in the correct zones. Over time, heavy aircraft traffic, weather conditions, and exposure to aviation fuels can cause markings to fade, reducing their effectiveness. Our work at Sangster ensures these markings remain clear and compliant, reinforcing safe and smooth airport operations.

Local Expertise for 35 Years

At Roadgrip Airports, we take pride in our deep-rooted experience working in the Caribbean, with over 35 years of delivering high-quality airfield solutions across the region. Our dedicated Jamaican team, permanently based in-country, collaborates closely with our UK team to ensure smooth project execution. Wherever we operate globally, we prioritise hiring locally, contributing to the economy, fostering skills development and sustainable growth in the communities we work in.

A Sustainable Application

For this project, we utilised water-based, environmentally friendly paints, aligning with our commitment to sustainability. These paints significantly reduce harmful emissions compared to traditional solvent-based options, making them a safer choice for both the environment and personnel working on-site. To enhance visibility, we applied reflective beads, which improve night-time and low-visibility conditions, reducing the risk of incidents and enhancing overall airfield safety.
